Take part in the world-wide My Moominhouse competition in the Moomin Museum's hometown!
Imagine yourself in the heart of Moominvalley, where the Moominhouse stands - a place where the doors are always open and adventures await around every corner. In the Moomin books, the Moominhouse created by Tove Jansson is a refuge, a home, and a center of joy and celebration. It's a place where everyone can be exactly who they are and everyone can feel like they belong!
What is your Moominhouse like? Is it small and cozy or huge and full of surprises? Maybe it's invisible or big enough to hold the whole world! With a unique Moominhouse, you can participate in the worldwide My Moominhouse competition organized by Moomin Characters! The competition is open from 24 October 2024 to 30 April 2025. Anyone can participate in the competition, participation is free and the style is free.
Workshop schedules will be updated soon! You can also participate in the Moominhouse competition independently by making art at daycare, school or at home.
As the home town of the Moomin Museum, Tampere wants to inspire the townspeople to build imaginative Moominhouses together! Various actors, such as the Moomin Museum, Children's Culture Centre Rulla and Tampere Intercultural Art Space, organize Moominhouse workshops during the competition, where you can find stories, ideas and materials to make your own Moominhouse.
Above all, the people of Tampere have the opportunity to be inspired by the original Tove Jansson's Moominhouse in their hometown! The Moomin Museum exhibits the first Moominhouse illustration, drawn by Tove Jansson in the first Moomin book, Moomin and the Great Flood (1945), as well as, of course, the gem of the collection, the Moominhouse, which with countless delicious details rises to a height of over two meters. These inspiring treasures can only be seen in Tampere!
