Habi Kids to offer a sea adventure with the Moomins
At this autumn’s Habi Kids, you can go on a sea adventure! What could inspire the imagination more than the sea stretching out in front of you, and its unexplored islands, islets and cliffs – it is literally a sea of possibilities!
Habi Kids, a special area at Habitare put together in cooperation with the world’s only Moomin Museum, provides a setting for an action-packed sea adventure. In the area, visitors can, for example, go fishing, discover creatures of the sea, and make bark boats. Habitare will be held at Messukeskus in Helsinki from 15 to 19 September 2021.
The theme of the 2012 Habitare is “Reimagine”. To the creator of the Moomins, Tove Jansson, the sea was a constant source of inspiration. She lived her whole life by the sea, which fed her creativity and offered a peaceful working environment. For the Moomins, the sea offers fantastic adventures and experiences. At Habi Kids, children and families with children get to go on adventures with the Moomins.
“Having adventures with others is central to the Moomin books, and the Moomin Museum wants to offer fair visitors a fun and action-packed sea journey. While on the adventure, or as an experience in its own right, you can take a break on the cliffs and enjoy, say, a picnic”, says the producer, Minna Honkasalo from the Moomin Museum.
The Habi Kids area provides art education to families with children in the form of fun activities. At the various activity points, you can make a boat out of bark, draw your own sea creature, write your own story, and catch fish and other creatures in the sea. And when you are feeling tired after your action-packed adventure, you can take a lie-down on a cliff or eat snacks on a picnic blanket.
“We are very happy and excited that visitors to Habitare have the opportunity to spend time in the world of the Moomins, which is founded on creativity, curiosity, friendship, and philosophical reflection. The Moomins and their numerous friends have an inexhaustible imagination and passion for new experiences. I, for one, will definitely be joining the Moomins at sea for a bit, because it always gives me new inspiration and energy”, says the creative director of Habitare, Laura Sarvilinna.
The comprehensive five-day Habi Kids programme will be announced in May, in connection with the rest of the Habitare programme.
Habitare, the largest furniture, design and interior decoration event in Finland, will be held at Messukeskus in Helsinki, from 15 to 19 September 2021. Habitare offers experiences and ideas on interior decoration, and on the functioning and look of homes and other spaces. Habitare highlights the ideas and works by a new generation of designers, and sparks discussion. The International Friend of Habitare in 2021 will be Joseph Grima.
