Comet to the Moomin Museum
The new Moomin Museum is an art museum that showcases the original Moomin-themed illustrations by Tove Jansson. The museum will also feature a new piece, as a Comet artwork has been ordered from the artist Hanna Vihriälä. The artwork is, of course, based on the story of the book “Comet in Moominland”.
The three-dimensional work is large, approximately four metres in length, and it will be suspended from the museum’s ceiling so that it can be admired from different directions. The Comet will be built of more than 200,000 coloured acrylic beads, stainless wires as well as ferrules that hold the beads in place. The work will be illuminated, so it will shine like a real comet in the dim museum space.
