The world’s first Moomin Museum opens its doors in Tampere on June 17, 2017. Previously known as Moominvalley, the museum has a permanent new home in the newly renovated Tampere Hall, taking visitors on a magical journey into the fairy-tale world of the original Moomin illustrations by Tove Jansson (1914–2001).
The museum’s permanent exhibition, What Happens Next?, presents Jansson’s timelessly loveable Moomin stories through drawings, paintings and three-dimensional tableaux, accompanied by background histories piquing the visitor’s imagination and sharing insights into the wistful mood of Jansson’s tales. Learn what inspired the stories and see what the Moomins first looked like and how they evolved over the years. The museum also features lively, three-dimensional tableaux crafted by Tuulikki Pietilä (1917–2009) which portray mysterious scenes from the Moomin adventures. Jansson’s Moomin books have been translated into over 50 languages. Their warm, wise message of camaraderie and spirit of adventure continue to win new fans all around the world. The Moomin Museum brings the spirit of Jansson’s stories to life in a fun, experiential package.
